Kenneth Overton, Baritone
A magnetic performer of opulent voice, Kenneth Overton radiates his personal truth whether singing Verdi roles, contemporary opera, spirituals or Bohème on Broadway. He has won special acclaim for the role of Porgy, sung in over a dozen major houses in North America and Europe. A national winner of the Leontyne Price Vocal Competition, Kenneth has also sung with New York City Opera, San Francisco Opera, at Carnegie Hall, and with numerous regional American companies. His CD, Been in De Storm So Long: Songs My Fathers Taught Me is an homage to the spiritual tradition that has been formative in his artistic life. Kenneth is also co-founder/Artistic Director of Opera Noire, an organization that empowers African-American performing artists to reach their full creative potential.
